Setting up EventHub business matching for our event took only a few days. By using EventHub, we were able to increase customer interaction level by three-fold compared to the year before.

Tech in Asia is a two-day tech conference held annually in the hub of Japan’s startup scene, Shibuya Tokyo. Since its inception in, it has consistently been one of the biggest technology conferences held in Japan.

This year Tech in Asia implemented EventHub to improve attendees’ business matching and networking experience. We interviewed David Corbin, CEO of Tech in Asia Japan, about his event and his experience using EventHub for attendee networking.

Please tell me about your event. What is Tech in Asia Tokyo?

Tech in Asia’s conferences were conceived in 2012 to connect the tech startup ecosystem in an offline setting, as an extension of their mission to build and serve the Asian region’s tech communities. Present in Singapore, Tokyo, and Jakarta, Tech in Asia’s conference series has grown to be one of the largest in Asia.

Tech in Asia Tokyo 2018 helps startup businesses stay ahead of the curve by uncovering the latest trends and building connections with industry leaders and passionate individuals in the tech community.

Our event consists of speeches and panels, exhibitions by startups, and business matching. We have used various services in the past for business matching, but decided to go with EventHub this year as we had heard it was very effective solution for the Japanese market.

Please tell us what kind of business matching you provide at your event and why it is important for your event.

Since our event’s purpose is to connect the tech startup ecosystem as a whole, we welcome all types of interactions among our attendees.  We connect rising startups in the region with investors that can help them grow; we connect startups developing leading edge technology with large corporations seeking to collaborate with new partners; we help companies connect with key partners from outside of their country, a unique value proposition that we are able to provide as we are a multi-national network with a large presence in Asia.

We have seen new collaborations, partnerships, investments happen as a result of this event and our mission is to continue doing so.

We’ve seen you use various business matching solutions in the past – why did you decide to use EventHub this time?  What was the experience like?

We were relatively familiar with networking event technology from our experience using various services in the past. However, for Tech in Asia Tokyo 2018 we wanted a solution that did not require an app download.

We also knew from our past experience of hosting events in other Asian countries that Japan is quite a unique market when it comes to encouraging attendees to mingle with each other. We had heard about EventHub from other tech events in Japan, and ultimately decided to go with them primarily because 1) the solution could be customized to be completely bilingual, and 2) it had a track record of improving attendee engagement among Japanese event attendees.

How was the preparation process and what was the end result?

Despite our first contact with EventHub being very late – just about 20 days before the event – we were able to get onboarded very quickly, and succeeded in opening the business matching site in a matter of days. We did not know what to expect in terms of engagement numbers at first as it was a completely brand new tool for us. In the end, we were able to increase customer interaction level by three-fold compared to the year before.

EventHub also provides an opportunity to reflect on numbers after the event, which I found helpful.  I hope to leverage our findings from this time around to further improve our numbers so that we can provide our attendees with a superb business matching experience.
